Disneyworld Weekend

We did a long weekend drive to Florida over Martin Lurther King Holiday in January.  We drove straight to Daytona after my last class on a Thursday.  It was quite the drive with a 2 month old and 3 1/2 year old.  Actually they did quite well.  We spent 2 days in Daytona Beach.  We had a hotel right on the beach, but sadly it was a little chilly and quite windy, so we could not enjoy it.  Then we ventured to Orlando for Ty’s first visit to the Magic Kingdom.  Sadly it doesn’t seem as magic when there are so many people there.

We arrived with the plan of opening the park, just as we were about to drive into the parking lot, Ty threw up in the back seat.  Chris pulled up onto the side of the road.  What a way to begin our day at Disneyworld.  We spent an hour cleaning Ty and the car up.  I thought that would be the end of our plans for the day, but by the time we cleaned things up, Ty seemed just fine.  So we spent the day in the Magic Kingdom after all.  I think Ty was a bit overwhelmed at first, but then he loved it.  We found a rollercoaster that he could ride in Toon Land.

He thought it was great.  Kylan was quite the trooper and spent most of the day in the snuggly.

When we left to go meet my sister, Jinjer, and her family, it was about 5 PM.  Ty was exhausted, but he wasn’t going to give in, even if it meant sleeping upright.  We were on the monorail and he was trying so hard not to sleep.  We tried to gently set him back into the stroller, but he would say with eyes half closed, “I’m not tired.”  Finally he gave in and layed back.

Unfortunately, he had a short nap as we drove to Wolfgang’s for dinner.  Surprisingly, he did pretty well at dinner.  It was the first time he met Jinjer, Rich and Ashley.  In fact after nearly 9 years of marriage, it was Chris’s first time meeting my sister and her family in person.

We stayed with Jinjer and her family for the weekend.  Ty quickly attached to all of them.  Our second day, we opened Hollywood Studios and made a dash for Toy Story Mania with the other 500 people.  That is definitely a fun ride.

We were able to spend a night at Animal Kingdom, thanks to my sister.  We had an excellent dinner in the hotel and then enjoyed a lazy morning observing the animals from the room and the hotel grounds before starting our long drive home.

We arrived in Durham at 2 AM it began to snow.  If only we had known we would have a great snow day, we could have stayed in Florida one more day….
