Ty has enjoyed preschool and is friends with everyone in the class. We just had parent teacher conference and his teachers tell us that Ty is “popular” especially with the girls – interesting. One friend, Patience, likes to make cards and pictures for Ty. The other kids usually seek Ty out to play. He is more of an independent player, so his teachers say he he will sometimes seek out another child to play with. For choice time, Ty will typically choose blocks which is where the trains are kept. He is also pretty particular about organizing shapes and colors. Each Friday they have share day. The children are supposed to bring in something to share related to the topic or letter of the week. Ty has brought in a train (either related to topic or starts with the letter of the week) almost every Friday. His teachers are always amazed.
However, the class got a Marble “maze” as Ty calls it and so he likes to play in science as well.
His teachers tell us he has also ventured into dramatic play and has put on some great puppet shows.

Following dinosaurs, they spent a week on Volcanoes.
This inspired Papa to construct a volcano for Ty when Grandma and Papa Clark came out for a visit in December.
A week on Light and shadows. As a result, Ty loves to play with our flashlight at home.
The week of Halloween, they had Spirit week, where the kids dressed up in something different each day and then of course in their costume for Halloween.

Halloween day – his school had a different activity in each room. In Preschool it was the cat walk – Ty is listening to see if it is his number. He did this for about 10 minutes before he finally was on the right number when it was called. Then we moved to the next room.

What was Ty – a train engineer of course! This was his first year T-o-T in the neighborhood. Previously we had only done the ward trunk or treats. Ty was pretty excited that people would just give us candy when we went to their door. As soon as we would leave one house, he would say, “Another house?” For the next week when we would go walking, we had to explain that Halloween was only ONE night a year.

Ty has always liked music, song and instruments. Here he is playing a friend’s instrument at school. I have since pulled out my recorder from Elementary school – yes, surprisingly I still have mine. And Ty enjoys playing with it at home. His favorite tune is …. Train whistles.

Ty’s favorite thing to do at the school “playground” is to play in the sandbox or to run around the playground with the lawn mower. On this day, Ty, Connor and Maleke were making a sand cake.
The children are asked to sign their name (or trace) each day they come to school. If a child does it each day, their name is put in a drawing to take home the class mascot – Jack Johnson (a toy stuffed penguin). Ty finally signed in every day one week that he earned Jack Johnson to take home for the weekend. Ty was so excited he held Jack Johnson all the way home from school.
On the way home, Ty said that Jack wanted to watch a movie. I asked what movie he wanted to watch. Ty said, “Madagascar”. Why does he want to watch Madagascar, I asked. Because there are penguins in it. So after dinner, Jack, Ty and Kylan watched Madagascar.
Ty loves to sing, especially songs from his favorite movies. Here he is singing the clip from Madasgascar (sorry it is sideways - that is how his teacher saved it). He sings it so often that he has taught his friends at school.
Ty will spend the next few months home. We will spend our days at the library for story time, free movies, parks and visits to the zoos and museums.
