Kylan and I flew out to Utah on Saturday May 9th . It was Kylan’s first airplane ride. He did fairly well – he is used to being put in his bed to sleep, so that was the only difficult part, otherwise he was great and received attention from many around. He can be quite social with other people and loves to smile, laugh and make happy sounds when they look and talk to him. We had an extra long lay over in Chicago, but fortunately we could walk around. However, it made for a very late arrival in Salt Lake City. Luckily Chris was driving, so I was able to nap a little on the way to Mom’s house. Ty had stayed in Cache Valley to play with his Cousins Rio and Van.
The next day was Mother’s day, so Heather, Megan and Jeremy’s family all came over and Ty was able to play with almost all his Jensen cousins.
Of course, Ty found a toy that had wheels to play with. The gun was a short novelty because he saw his other cousins play with it, but it did not last long.
Here is Ty in his element, running circles in Grandma Jensen’s backyard with his cousins. Ty thought this was great. He calls it Chase.
The next day we went up for a visit in Idaho for Kylan to visit with Grandma and Papa Clark. Chris and I left the boys for a quick hike between Kylan’s feedings. Since it was May, there was still plenty of snow in the mountains.
A tree was the best thing we could find to put the camera on, the only bad thing is it took the picture at an angle.
After we made it to the top of a peak, it was time to head down. We had some fun “skiing” down the snow covered areas.
The lower areas where the snow had melted weren’t quite as fun. However, part of the trail had become a little stream due to the snow melting so we had to make our own trail.
When we went back to pick up the boys from G & Papa Clark, Ty decided he would spend the night there since Papa would be leaving for work early the next morning. So Chris and I enjoyed a dinner out that evening at Le Nonne with just Kylan. Unfortunately, as we were going to bed, Grandma Clark called with Ty crying to come get him. I tried to calm him over the phone but he wouldn’t hang up unless we said we would come get him. So we drove up to Idaho and forgot our cell phones. By the time we arrived, Ty had fallen asleep. We then drove back to my mom’s house to sleep. Ty did not sleep very well that night and kept Grandma Clark up most the night. Apparently he had picked up some bug. Chris left early the next morning to get him and bring him back. When they got back to Grandma Jensen’s Ty had a fever. He couldn’t keep anything down. He pretty much put himself to bed. He slept most of Tuesday and Wednesday.
Here is Rio reading to Ty and Van Wednesday evening – Ty was still not quite himself.
But he had enough energy to check out some of the monsters in the story Rio was reading.
Thursday morning, Ty seemed to be mostly over his illness, so we drove to Salt Lake City with Heather, Rio and Van and met Tanya with Christopher, Thomas and Sophie at the Gateway Children’ s Museum. We arrived right before noon as most of the school groups were leaving and ended up having the Museum mostly to ourselves for the afternoon – well at least it wasn’t very crowded.
Here is Ty in the infant area – apparently a few of the toys caught his eye.
He was quite possessive of the canoe and the little girl in the green shirt with her head down is sad because Ty told her she could not get in. Of course I spoke with Ty about this after the picture.
Here is Sophie holding her own among the big kids.
Ty thought this was great to operate a crane as he enjoys Cranky the crane from Thomas and the Island of Sodor and points out cranes as we drive around at home. Christopher gave him some assistance as he worked to lift the “heavy” load.
Kylan was happy to watch the kids playing.
Ty patiently waited for his turn on this crane. He did not want to give up his spot. He enjoyed lifted and lowering the canopy while his cousins and other kids would load it up and empty it.
Here Ty, Chris and Rio are attempting to coordinate timing to play a simple tune. Ty thought this was great and wanted to keep playing until he realized his cousins were going somewhere else.
Kylan was checking out Sophie as she was playing on the floor with a toy helicopter she had found.
After the Children’s Museum, we drove to South Salt Lake to eat at the Mayan Adventure. It truly has a fun atmosphere with a waterfall in the center of the restaurant for divers to jump from. Here is one of the divers that came to talk to Ty. Ty was a little hesitant at first and unsure of what he wanted. But he finally wandered over to talk to the diver.
The diver tried to tell Ty to give him a strong push on the chest. Ty barely touched him the first time, so he said to try again. Finally Ty gave him a good push (the camera didn’t quite get it fast enough) so here is Ty looking over the edge as the diver fell into the water after Ty pushed him.
The divers put on a show about every 20-30 minutes. We were able to watch them at least 3 times. The same diver came back to visit right before we left. This time, Ty blew as hard as he could and “blew” the diver into the water. Ty thought this was great.
On our last night, Ty enjoyed the evening with Rio and Van. He went and watched Rio play in her soccer game. We had a steak dinner. Then went out for ice cream at the famous A & W’s and the kids got a twist root beer and vanilla cone. Heather and I picked up a Blue Bird peanut butter pie.
Then the kids settled in for a movie – Ty selected Charlotte’s Web. The kids made it about half way before they fell asleep, well Rio and Van fell asleep, Ty would have probably finished the movie, but we convinced him it was time for bed since Rio and Van were asleep.
We left at 7 am the next morning for our drive to the airport. We had a 10 Am flight. Our timing was perfect. We arrived just after 9 and by the time we got to our gate we only had to wait about 20 minutes before we boarded. The boys did great on the return flight and both had a decent nap as well. Ty was ready to be home. In fact, he had said a few times at the end of the week that he wanted to go home to his own room and sleep in his own bed.
