Although Kylan enjoys playing trains and cars with Ty, he loves playing with balls. In the past month, he has easily spent half his day playing with balls. We pulled out Chris’ old basketball hoop and he will spent easily 30 minutes at a time shooting baskets and making over half of them. He is also catching the ball when we gently toss it from a few feet away. Although he will throw with his right hand, like Ty, it appears he is left dominant.
We have a water basket for the tub. Kylan will easily spent 30 minutes in the tub shooting one basket after the next non-stop. He will shoot left handed, right handed and both at the same time.
We went swimming at the college this past week and they have a basketball hoop for the water. Kylan spent our entire visit at the pool having Chris or I hold him up to shoot baskets – we were there for over an hour.
Chris raised the basketball hoop in the living room today. Right after he did so, Kylan walked up to the hoop – grunted and raised his hand over head as if measuring the height. Then walked over and picked up a ball and began shooting again. He probably made his second basket and didn’t seem phased by the increased height of the basket.
He is making baskets from 4-5 feet away from the hoop. Watching Kylan has actually influenced Ty to want to shoot baskets as well. Ty has actually improved his shooting since Kylan began shooting.
We have experimented with raising the hoop up 3-4 feet and Kylan is not phased. It takes him a few shots to adjust to the height, then he continues to make shots.
