Spring Break

Spring Break here in WY occurred during the last week of March/first week of April.  Since Ty had no school, gymnastics or swim lessons for the week due to Spring Break, we decided to spend the week in UT/ID.  Chris’s mom came out a few days before to help with the kids while Chris was away at a conference.  So she drove with me and the kids to UT while Chris stayed until the middle of the week to work.  The kids did an amazing job driving to UT, for being stuck in the car for over 8 hours, it was our best drive yet.

Ty was excited to play and sleepover with his cousins Rio and Van.  Kylan took a few days to adjust to a new bed.  Ty requested sleepovers at Grandma & Papa’s house in ID half the time we were there.  I think he spent 2 nights there by himself and did a great job.

Kylan enjoyed being able to roam around Grandma Jensen’s house and playing in Grandma & Papa’s yard in ID mainly because they have a real basketball hoop in the driveway.  Kylan can spot any basketball hoop when we are driving around and will say “ball” when he sees one.

In the middle of the week, we received a nice heavy snowfall.  Ty and Kylan were excited to go out and play.  I had forgotten Kylan’s snowsuit, so we improvised by double layering and using socks covered by latex gloves to keep his hands warm and dry.

Chris drove in the night of the big snowfall.  Fortunately he did not hit snow until he crossed into UT, so he only had to deal with it for a few hours.  We were just glad he made it safely.  The boys were happy to see him the next morning.

Finally Easter weekend came.  Ty was so excited for Easter and was constantly asking when he could hunt for eggs.  He spent Friday night up in ID with Grandma Clark.  Saturday morning they dyed eggs.  Ty was so excited to show us the work he had done with Grandma.  They had painted over a dozen eggs. We met Grandma and Ty in Preston for the city Easter egg hunt.  There was still snow on the ground and it was chilly, but neither of the boys seemed to mind.  Kylan’s age group went first.  I had to pick up the first egg for him.  I told him they were balls and he had no problem picking up the eggs and throwing them in the basket after the first one.

Ty couldn’t wait for his turn.  Finally, they blew the whistle and Ty was off.  The older kids ran off looking for the golden eggs and other big prizes, but Ty was content gathering all the eggs that were right in front of him and then continuing the search further once he had completed that.

After Ty finished, and we were walking back to the car, he began to chant, “I got the most eggs, I got the most eggs.”  Even though he had about a dozen eggs and a kid next to him had an overflowing bucket full, that didn’t seem to phase him.  He was content with what he had found.  He was disappointed when we told him he could not join the older kids hunt.  Ty just enjoys finding eggs.

From ID, we drove down to Grandma Jensen’s where we had lunch with my family – Heather and Megan’s family were all there.  After lunch, I hid eggs in Mom’s upstairs area, and the kids fanned the house in search of eggs.  For his first Easter hunts, Kylan did a great job both in ID and at Grandma’s.

Since we spent Sunday driving back to WY, Chris and I put out Kylan’s and Ty’s Easter basket and eggs Sunday evening for them to find Monday morning.  Ty typically comes into our room first thing in the morning, but Monday morning I woke up to noises in the living room.  Ty had gone straight there and begin his search of eggs on his own.

Ty was quite excited to find Bill, Ben, Annie and Claribell trains in some of his eggs.  He has been asking for these trains for many months now.

Kylan enjoyed finding a few eggs, but then decided they were suitable as a ball and began throwing them in his basketball hoop.

After a few hints, Ty finally found the last egg.  Ty wanted to continue finding more eggs.  I promised him we would do an egg hunt for Music Makers on Friday.  As a result, Ty thought Easter lasted for a whole week.
