Memorial Day

With Chris home for the weekend, we had a very full weekend of activities.  It began on Saturday with a birthday party at Marbles for one of Kylan’s friends from school.  Glad we were both there, as the boys wanted to be in different places the entire visit. 
On Monday, Memorial Day, we went for a visit to the NC Zoo in Asheboro – probably our last.  Kylan was very excited to see the animals.  He has been learning about animals at school and had just had a lesson in Nursery on animals.  His favorite bedtime story right now is Rumble in the Jungle, so we talk about animals every night.  Kylan decided we should start in Africa so we could see the rhinoceras and elephants first.  As we entered Africa, our first animal sightings were of the ostriches, zebras and giraffes. 

Next we had a great view of the elephants.  Ty was more excited to climb into the helicopter and tried to be patient as he waited for his turn in the front of the helicopter.  Kylan also enjoyed “flying” the copter. 
On the other side, we had another view of a group of elephants.  2 elephants wandered over to a mud pool and Kylan enjoyed watching them spray themselves down with mud.

Unfortunately the rhinos were out of view and Kylan was unable to see them.  So we enjoyed a small snack and then the boys enjoyed playing in the egg replicas and pretending to be elephants.

The Baboons were next on our way to see the Swamp Ghost – the newest addition to the zoo. 

Ty and Kylan also enjoyed watching this Eagle sitting on its perch.  It did not move much in the 10 minutes we watched him, but the boys sure enjoyed just staring at him. 

The white alligator was so still when we first saw him that Ty asked if he was real.  At that instant, the alligator decided to shift his position a little. 

Kylan and Ty both enjoyed watching this big Gorilla munch on his tree against the viewing window.  Kylan even waved and said hello. 

The last animal that held Kylan’s attention was the sleeping lion.  He told everyone that walked by that it was a lion and that it was sleeping. 

We did see the chimpanzees, lemurs, brown bear, polar bear and seals on the way to the playground – which was Ty’s desired location.   Ty was excited to climb around the playground and Kylan ventured around trying out his climbing skills as well. 

On the way home, we thought it a good time to have one last Cosmic Cantina dinner.
